01Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how R2INC PTY LTD (ABN 46 123 946 609) trading as Star Celebrant ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, discloses, and protects personal information in connection with our website (starcelebrant.com) and our marriage celebrancy services.

We take the privacy of your information seriously — particularly because, as part of arranging your legal marriage, we handle some of the most sensitive documents you own. This policy is written in plain language so you know exactly what to expect.

See also our Terms & Conditions, which covers the booking and legal side of our services in more detail.

02What We Collect

Information you give us

  • Enquiry & contact details: your name, your partner's name, email, phone number, wedding date, guest numbers, cultural background, and any message you send us through our website contact form, phone, email, or WhatsApp.
  • Booking details: if you book a consultation or ceremony time through our online scheduling tool, we collect the appointment details and contact information you provide there.
  • Legal marriage documents: once you book, and as required by the Marriage Act 1961 (Cth), we collect certified copies or originals of identity documents — typically a birth certificate or passport, and, where applicable, a divorce order or death certificate for a previous spouse.

Information collected automatically

  • Website usage data: when you browse starcelebrant.com, we automatically collect data such as your IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, and how you arrived at our site, via analytics tools (see Cookies & Website Analytics below).

03How We Collect It

  • Directly from you — through our website enquiry form, phone calls, email, WhatsApp, in-person meetings, or our online booking page.
  • Automatically, through cookies and similar technologies when you visit our website.
  • From publicly available sources, only where relevant to your ceremony (for example, confirming a venue's public contact details).

We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18 without a parent or guardian's involvement.

04How We Use It

  • To respond to your enquiry and arrange a consultation.
  • To plan, personalise, and deliver your ceremony.
  • To prepare and lodge your Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) and complete legally required marriage registration.
  • To manage bookings, payments, and communications with you.
  • To understand how visitors use our website, so we can improve it.
  • To comply with our legal obligations under the Marriage Act 1961 (Cth) and other applicable law.

We do not use your personal information for any purpose beyond these without asking you first, and we never sell your personal information.

05Cookies & Website Analytics

Our website uses a small number of third-party tools that may place cookies or similar technologies on your device:

  • Google Tag Manager / Analytics: we use Google Tag Manager, which may load analytics tools such as Google Analytics, to understand visitor numbers and behaviour on our site. This data is aggregated and doesn't directly identify you.
  • Google Maps: our contact page embeds a Google Map, which may set cookies when loaded.
  • YouTube: some pages embed videos using YouTube's privacy-enhanced ("no-cookie") mode, which limits — but doesn't fully eliminate — data collection by Google once you interact with a video.
  • Google Fonts: our site loads typefaces from Google's font library.

You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings at any time. Blocking cookies may affect how some parts of our site display, but won't prevent you from contacting us or reading our content.

07Overseas Disclosure

Some of the third-party services we use — including Formspree, Google, and Meta (WhatsApp) — are based overseas (primarily the United States) and may store or process your information on servers outside Australia. These providers are large, established platforms with their own privacy and security safeguards.

Your original identity documents and legal marriage paperwork are handled by us directly and are not uploaded to any overseas platform as part of the marriage registration process.

08How We Protect It

  • Physical documents (such as identity papers) are stored securely and are not left unattended.
  • Digital records are kept on password-protected devices, accessible only to Star Celebrant.
  • We limit access to your personal information to what's necessary to deliver your ceremony.

No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, but we take reasonable, proportionate steps to protect your information given the size of our business and the sensitivity of what we hold.

09How Long We Keep It

We retain your personal information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy — including the period required under the Marriage Act 1961 (Cth) and applicable record-keeping obligations for marriage celebrants. Enquiry details from couples who don't go on to book are deleted within a reasonable period if no booking eventuates. After that, information is securely deleted or destroyed.

10Your Rights

You can ask us at any time to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correct any information that's inaccurate or out of date.
  • Ask us to delete information we no longer need to keep for legal reasons.

To do any of this, just contact us using the details below — we'll respond within a reasonable timeframe.

11Complaints

If you have a concern about how we've handled your personal information, please contact us directly first — we're always happy to sort things out. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.

While Star Celebrant's business size may fall below the threshold that mandates compliance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), we voluntarily follow the Australian Privacy Principles as best practice, given the sensitivity of the information we handle.

12Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example to reflect changes in the law or in the tools we use. The current version will always be available on this page.
